During the Great Depression the government created a series of programs to put writers and artists back to work. The Workers' Progress Administration was one such program, which focused mostly on regional writings and art styles. One WPA project here in Utah was to gather more information about the Mormon pioneers. (This project was later continued by the Utah Writers' Project.)
